Whether it is biking, paddleboarding, fishing, birdwatching, kiteboarding, or camping, it’s in our backyard!
Clear Lake and outdoor adventure have always been synonymous. The lake drew the first inhabitants and continues to have that impact today. Artists like Grant Wood, who created his last painting here, loved his summers in Clear Lake. Since we are on the Mississippi River flyway, the spring migration is a birdwatcher’s delight.
Because we have restored the lake’s water quality, Ventura Marsh, and surrounding wetlands, wildlife is returning to make this their home. Bald eagles, pelicans, and snow geese are just some of the winged delights. Sandhill cranes recently nested for the first documented time since the late 1800s.
For those looking for nature or person-powered recreation, dive in!
Bike Trails – Check out the variety of bike trails in North Iowa! The popular “lake lap” just got even better with Cerro Gordo County’s construction of a bike path along 235th Street west from Dogwood Avenue and connecting to the Sisters’ Prairie path. This path provides an overview of many of Iowa’s ecosystems – lake, woodlands, prairie and wetlands – all on one enjoyable ride.
We are grateful for the many outdoor adventures to be enjoyed on and around the lake. State parks, city beaches, Ventura Cove, and public approaches provide public access to this treasure.
