Reconnect to the Twilight and Nighttime

Nighttime outdoors sometimes gets a bad rap. But there is much to enjoy! “We want to reconnect to the twilight and nighttime – the sights, sounds, smells, cooler temperatures – everything that we can sense,” said local naturalist Cindy Findley who will conduct the “Nighttime Wonder Walk” on Friday, April 25 at 8 p.m. It will take place at Sisters Prairie, 2902 235th Street, south of Ventura.

“A goal is to remind people that nighttime is just as important as daytime” for enjoying the outdoors. “Have you ever wondered what goes on in our natural world after the sun goes down?” she asked. She’ll lead a short hike and talk about star gazing, misdirected lighting which makes it difficult to stargaze, nocturnal animals and other topics. “As a society, we tend to fear the night, the former Tanglefoot Camp director said. “But nighttime is never to be feared, but savored, enjoyed and discovered.” Everyone is welcome to this fun event, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants should wear appropriate footwear for a short hike and dress for the weather. It will be held rain or shine and will be under cover if it is raining. Sister’s Prairie is on a family farm property. Parking will be available for this event. If possible, all participants should bring along a small flashlight with a red-colored lens for nighttime use.
